Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate Overview

Many students choose our Lean Six Sigma Training & DFSS Six Sigma program as an alternative to our Six Sigma Green Belt Certification Program. This program covers many of the specifics that are covered in the Green Belt Program including basic DFSS implementation, however also teaches Lean processes along with other Lean training tools. The final certification for the program would actually state “Lean/DFSS Green Belt”. Students searching for advanced coverage of DFSS and Lean six sigma certification principles should consider our Lean Black Belt Program.

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)

Companies that implement a Lean Six Sigma training program find that a majority of defects are actually created during the design process. As companies’ processes begin to exceed Five Sigma, they typically hit a “wall” that requires a redesign of some or all of the processes. This process of redesign is called Design for Six Sigma (DFSS). DFSS is a rigorous approach to designing products and services as well as enabling processes from the very beginning to ensure that they produce Six Sigma-quality products and services and that meet customer expectations.

Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma

Lean Six Sigma certification provides a systematic approach which reduces waste in the value stream. It not only covers defective products, but all types of defective work. It identifies defects, overproduction, inventories (in process or finished goods), unnecessary processing, unnecessary movement of people, unnecessary transport of goods, waiting, and designing goods and services that don’t meet customer’s needs.

Our course integrates the principles of DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, and Verify). This results in product designs that consistently meet customer requirements, target costs, target release dates, and manufacturing requirements.

Six Sigma Online’s Lean & DFSS curriculum rivals that of the American Society for Quality (ASQ) standard of certification for Black Belts. As a Lean Six Sigma certification graduate, you will not only make an impact upon your career, but upon your life.

Originally developed by Bill Smith at Motorola in 1986, the Six Sigma Training program was created using some of the most innovative quality improvement methods from the preceding six decades. The term "Six Sigma" is derived from a field of statistics known as process capability. The term 6 Sigma refers to the ability of manufacturing processes to produce a very high proportion of output within specification. Processes that operate with "six sigma quality" over the short term are assumed to produce long-term defect levels below 3.4 defects per million opportunities. Six Sigma's goal is to improve overall processes to that level of quality or better.
