Six Sigma Certification Guide: Overview and Career Options (New Main Page)

What is Six Sigma Certification?

Six Sigma is a methodology that utilizes statistical tools and concepts to identify variations or defects in a process.  A Six Sigma Certification indicates an individual has achieved a particular level of knowledge in the study and application of this methodology. This type of certification will make you a more valuable asset to any industry and enhance your career greatly.  For employers, a Six Sigma certification is one of the best tools you can give to employees in any professional environment because it will not only help the individual in their career goals, but it can help the company move toward success.  Enrolling in Six Sigma Training and Certification is an investment into the future.

Accreditation Details

Much like a University, our certification is the same that any major university or on-site training provider offers. Additionally, we are accredited by the Council for Six Sigma Certification.

We were among the original online certification providers. We have been providing six sigma certification online for well over a decade (when most other providers have been in business a very short time). This matters when it comes to having your degree verified down the road.

While there are other accreditation agencies, The Council for Six Sigma Certification appear to have a larger segment of both private and university providers, but it also provides the service at no charge to providers thereby reducing a possible conflict of interest in the accreditation process.

Despite their website’s claims, IASSC is not the industry’s de facto certification agency.  they accredit approximately 70 organizations. If you visit our accreditation directory you will see that we have roughly TRIPLE that number.

You may also notice that in the list IASSC appears to represent only 1 university. CSSC has had 20+ colleges and universities apply for its accreditation

Becoming Six Sigma Certified

Originally developed by Bill Smith at Motorola in 1986, the Six Sigma Training program was created using some of the most innovative quality improvement methods from the preceding six decades. The term "Six Sigma" is derived from a field of statistics known as process capability. The term 6 Sigma refers to the ability of manufacturing processes to produce a very high proportion of output within specification. Processes that operate with "six sigma quality" over the short term are assumed to produce long-term defect levels below 3.4 defects per million opportunities. Six Sigma's goal is to improve overall processes to that level of quality or better.
