The internet has provided a means for someone sitting in their living room to reach a global audience in order to sell their product or service. It’s not as easy as it sounds though, and the key to success with an internet business is finding a niche and marketing that niche!
The United States operates in a capitalistic market. People are constantly profiting from new ideas and leveraging the uniqueness of these ideas for investment capital and customers. Right from the start, business owners must understand that their goal is to concentrate all your ideas and thoughts into the most precise, concise, and focused concept possible. The potential audience is everyone in the world with computer access and an interest in your site's topic. Potential information resources are everything known about that topic. The business owner has to find a niche.
The concept of niche marketing involves finding where the competition exists, and going where they haven’t. It’s being different but being informed. You also have to be assured that your niche will be profitable. Otherwise, you are guessing.
If your only interest is making money online, this is not a niche today. That niche was "hot" eight years ago. Most successful internet entrepreneurs agree that they would not attempt breaking into their niche if they were starting out today. There's just too much competition, there are way too many experts already. Breaking into a niche market using keywords like "make money at home", "work at home", and "home business" is next to impossible. Don’t fret; there are billions of niches out there; find yours.
Business owners must know how frequently people are searching their niche’s information, what keywords they are entering in the search engines, and how many sites are currently available with that information. Eventually, you will come up with your concept, your keywords, and you can begin creating your domain name and meta tags for your website.
Every page on your website will have its own keywords. These are the words that people will enter into a search engine in order find or come across your webpage. Maybe your art interest has been narrowed down to the history of London architecture as depicted in the photographs of John Doe. You must find the best keywords for your niche market, see what sites are currently available, and change your focus until you find just the right balance between what's hot, and what’s not.
Researching what your niche is at the beginning is crucial to your success. It's the hardest part, and at the moment, the least rewarding. But once it's done, you've got the skeleton, the foundation, of everything else you will be doing. You'll have a list of websites to refer back to for researching all the rest of your web pages, articles, links, and so on.
