- Categorized in: Six Sigma Certification & Training
Many people may be asking for advice on how to become Six Sigma certified. Nonetheless, what should be understood is that not all individuals may have the requisite qualification to earn such certification. Before getting certified, there are a number of proficiency tests and projects which are rendered. Once these are successfully completed, one earns a Six Sigma certification for their career advancement.
A Six Sigma Certification is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated skills in leadership as well as proper implementation of doctrines of quality control methods. Competencies are reliant on projects that are effectively shown by the trainees. Just like is the case with any tests or certificates, there should be some way of testing proficiency. The ‘Six Sigma certified’ designation is awarded to those who have deemed themselves worthy of the feat.
Six Sigma Proficiency tests are inclusive of practical projects as well as written tests. When a training candidate passes these tests, it can be determined whether or not one is qualified in assisting an organization with their Six Sigma ventures. Such tests ensure candidates are able to complete tasks using the theories and tools they’ve been taught during their training. The tests are based on different methodologies as well as statistical hypotheses that are presented during training.
Training can be obtained in various ways. The two main ways are through online access or through a company. There is also the option of using a consulting business. Where one has chosen to train notwithstanding, competency is tested based on belt levels. The level of expertise in Six Sigma Professionals is based on belt-level hierarchy. The different belt levels work in unison for the completion of quality management projects. There exists three common belt levels. Project managers are designated Black Belts. They are followed by the Green Belts who are charged with most of the data collection and analysis. Finally, there are the Yellow belts who are at the lowest level in terms of knowledge and expertise and who act as support staff to Green and Black Belts.
With belt levels, the knowledge, skill and leadership levels can be depicted. Training is different depending on the level that one is in. The highest form of competency is Champion. Persons in this level are known for their innovative attitudes and leadership abilities. Also above the common Belts is a Six Sigma Master Black Belt. This individual serves as a mentor for when a Six Sigma Team gets stuck and who is also responsible for training lower belt levels.
The reason for obtaining Six Sigma certification is simple. By being certified, one increases their proficiency in this specific quality improvement method that is both proven and popular. Consequently, the income levels of such individuals are poised to increase. In addition, promotion at work becomes more likely and hire-ability increases.
When considering how to become Six Sigma certified, one has to complete a course of study offered by a chosen training organization in a chosen belt level. The material covered in the exam is likely to be provided, as well as minimum requirements for passing. After paying the tuition fees and completing all course requirements, one can sit back and wait for their results; and hopefully, if all goes well, a Six Sigma Certified designation.
