Business Statistics: A Guide to Competitively Improving Your Business
- 3-9-2010

Business statistics can reveal a myriad of things about any given organization or field. From uncovering the high rollers to revealing those with less than stellar performances in the customer satisfaction field, the data revealed is often times more beneficial than not. While it may be true that no news is good news, in the world of business almost any executive would rather hear about the bad before it gets any worse. That way, there is time to fix whatever has become “broken” and steer clear of bottoming out. How would statistical data help every company? Is there a common factor that is looked at across the board?
The answer to that is both yes and no, but in the end it is highly dependent upon who is viewing the information. External customers might be conducting some research on their own before deciding whether or not to go with your company. From selling prices to stock numbers to company longevity, all can be revealed from information at your company’s fingertips thanks to the worldwide web. For internal customers, the draw to these numbers is similar and yet more in-depth. Internal customers that view the business statistics are generally in upper management or workforce development teams. These groups are often trained to analyze the data they’ve received in order to identify trends and or areas of opportunity. ‘Area of opportunity’ is a phrase that is broadly applied to many situations, but overall it means areas that are currently being missed entirely or those where improvements need to be made.
In the end, it’s all about change. With the numbers in front of you, the masses will stand by you. Utilization of the wealth of information you have gleaned from the data is in your hands. Your team’s decision to run with it or from it will help determine the course your business will take from that point on for better or worse. Wouldn’t you rather know what lies ahead in order to prepare?
