Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is used when a redesign of some or all of a company’s processes is required. It is a precise approach to designing products and services as well as enabling processes from the beginning of a project that will ensure that a company will produce Six Sigma quality products and services that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Lean manufacturing is a systematic approach which reduces waste. It immediately identifies defective work as well as defective products. It alerts you to problems in areas such as overproduction of a product. It isolates and allows for correction of unnecessary processing, unnecessary movement of people, or unnecessary transportation of goods. It tracks and evaluates inventories whether they are in process or finished goods. It aids in identifying the design of goods and services that do not meet the customer’s needs. It also tracks time lines highlighting wasted opportunities.
During your training, you will learn the 5 Laws of Lean Six Sigma which will result in a savings for the company and will make happier customers who will want to continue to do business with the company. This will ultimately result in increasing revenue for your company.
• Law Zero is the Law of the Market, which ensures quality is absolutely central to the continued success of a business.
• Law One is the Law of flexibility; making sure there is enough time to complete the process once it has been started.
• Law Two is the Law of Focus, which will keep the activities likely to delay the process on schedule, so they won’t delay the completion of the project.
• Law Three is the Law of Velocity, which will ensure that all parts of the project are being completed on time - particularly any process that will be passed on to another area of the project.
• Law Four is the Law of Complexity, that will keep the job as simple as possible not allowing excess work and costs to be incurred. It will remove the danger of poor quality or slow speed that would keep the project from being completed on time.
We started with a Law Zero because it is the base from which all of the other laws can proceed, so it is therefore more of an indispensible principle rather than a simple step in the process. Without this law, there are no others.
This course of study integrates the principles of DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design and Verify). The implementation of these principles results in designs of products that consistently meet or exceed customer requirements while ensuring the target costs and release dates are met, fulfilling all manufacturing requirements.
