Some Information Regarding the Six Sigma Yellow Belt

The Six Sigma Yellow Belt is a level of certification obtained after training in the esteemed quality improvement method known as Six Sigma. It is a step below green and just two below black, or in other words, the most introductory level recognized by the community.

Six Sigma is a regulated and structured approach to business related issues and problems that consists of things like problem solving, data measuring, and product control. Just like the levels of martial arts, the program's certification levels are denoted by colors and belts, such as white, yellow, green, black, and master black.  The Six Sigma method was first created and implemented by the well-known corporation, Motorola, and has recently been shown on popular television programs and movies. The method requires its constituents to serve in a vast variety of courses, programs, and projects in order to be a part of, and advance, in the program.

A yellow belt holder is someone who is considered an entry level certification holder after they sign up for, attend, and complete a training course. The class consists of an in depth overview of the esteemed program's goals and intentions. They generally receive their training from higher belts and are rarely ever put in charge of projects or implement any part of the process on their own.  Yellow belts are considered supplementary staff when it comes to Six Sigma.

The role of yellow belts varies greatly depending on the type of company and industry they work for. They continue to receive training even after their initial course and work on projects and tasks that will help them advance when they are ready.  Usually, members of this level actively participate in projects and tasks as a team and are usually not responsible for management and operations.

Generally, training for yellows is provided to certain key members of a company or corporation that participates in the Six Sigma business method. The level advancement can be obtained on your own or on the internet as well. Typically, a small sign-up fee and referral are required in order to participate and once those are provided, the members become privy to a wealth of information that includes the business program's methods and principles.

Certification for this level of the esteemed program is relatively simple to obtain and is a great starting point but it does not exactly have the same prestige, status, and weight that the higher colored belts have. Unlike the Green, Black, and Master Black Belts, this particular level is a lot less likely to be relevant or necessary outside of the company or corporation that the member was employed at the time of certification.

Unfortunately, this level of Six Sigma Certification is often the subject of fairly harsh criticism as well, although not as much as the White Belt level, one step lower than the Yellow Belt. Since the overall knowledge and training that yellows receive is significantly less complex than that of higher belt members, they are often left out of the program's loop. Most critics agree that the yellow level should either be included more in the program or that advancement up to a Green, Black, or Master Black color should be attempted and obtained quickly so that the participant will be able to get the most that they can out of the business method.
