Now that the overview, definitions, benefits, types, and preparation of FMEA have all been discussed, there are only a few things left to discuss. When you employ Six Sigma Training to do a FMEA, there are certain roles and responsibilities of those who are involved in the Six Sigma Process. There are also specific change techniques that can come in handy for FMEA projects that are facing adversity within the healthcare organization. Knowing these things is the final step in making the most of the FMEA Six Sigma Methodology for your organization.
Understanding how a cause can create failure, and how that failure can inherently create an effect on the customer (usually negative) is the key to successful use of FMEA in your Six Sigma Projects. The team members on any Six Sigma Process team will all have different roles and responsibilities to keep track of. The teams should be comprised of members from various areas of the organization that are affected or will be affected by the cause that launched the FMEA in the first place. Leaders and Process Owners are responsible for setting the stage to create an empowered team that has the initiative and time to complete the process.
FMEA teams involved in Six Sigma projects generally consist of 6-10 people. This can vary, depending on which process stage is being undertaken. The team should also have a leader, a record keeper, a time keeper, and a champion. The other members of the team should be knowledgeable about the process that is being addressed. It is helpful to have members that are good with quick decision making and team building skills, as well. Once the team is assembled, setting a few ground rules will set the stage and provide the circumstances under which people will be working.
For those who are facing adversity or a lack of acceptance from management or other employees within the healthcare organization, implementing a Change Acceleration Process might be helpful. This process can ensure that people become accepting and supportive of the FMEA Six Sigma Projects so that they can be completed without complication. This tool of Six Sigma Training will allow the team to demonstrate to the adverse parties how the FMEA for a particular process will be beneficial, swaying their opinion in the end. Once everyone supports the FMEA for a specific process, and the proper team is in place, the project can begin with the support that it deserves.
