Six Sigma Certification - Levels of Training Explored
- 8-20-2009
- Categorized in: Six Sigma Certification & Training
Six Sigma Certification can be done in various levels, which is why it is important to understand these levels before you embark on a Six Sigma Training course. You need to be sure that you’re getting the right training and that you will be able to perform the jobs necessary when you are done. These three types of training include the Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Six Sigma Green Belt, and Six Sigma Black Belt certifications. There is also a Master Black Belt Certification, which just requires further education and experience beyond the Black Belt level to create a higher level of understanding.
The Six Sigma Green Belt and Six Sigma Yellow Belt are two levels of training that only require minimal education and experience, and create members of the Six Sigma Team. These members all have different roles within the team, but each one understands the basic principles and methodology of Six Sigma as it applies to their position. They will not have the same education or experience as Black Belt holders, and will only be able to achieve that status themselves with further training and experience. These are the most commonly trained types, as it takes more people to make up a team than leaders.
The Six Sigma Black Belt certification is for those who are made to be in charge. Team leaders of Six Sigma Projects are required to be Six Sigma Black Belt certified, or even Master Black Belt certified, depending on the task at hand. These people will posses all the knowledge that green belts and yellow belts have, but will have more detailed training on Six Sigma Process, principles, and other elements of the Six Sigma Certification. Someone does not generally immediately become a black belt, but will instead work their way up through the ranks to achieve the level of training that will make them a leader.
These are the basic classifications of Six Sigma Certification and training. People who become Six Sigma certified do have to meet certain requirements regarding training and actual experience, so it is important to find a program that knows and adheres to those requirements when you are training to become Six Sigma certified. By knowing what is expected of you at each level, you can often make better decisions about what you want to achieve and where you need to be in order to achieve it. Otherwise, you might be wandering through the world of Six Sigma Training without a purpose or intent.
