Six Sigma - Yellow Belt, Green Belt, and Black Belt Training

There are various levels of Six Sigma Training that can be attained by those who need it. For those who are minimally involved with a team as a member that isn’t in a leadership position, a Six Sigma Yellow Belt or Six Sigma Green Belt might prove to be effective enough. However, for the leaders within the company or organization, nothing less than a Six Sigma Black Belt will be accepted as a sign that they are ready to be leaders in a Six Sigma Project. Learning Lean Six Sigma is the same basic concept as traditional practices, but with a focus on waste elimination to improve quality and speed enhancement to make things operate more efficiently.

Yellow Belt and Green Belt Certification requires that people are aware of the concepts of Six Sigma and the lean principles when they are working on a Lean project. If the project is traditional, the only one required to have the extra knowledge about Lean is the Black Belt. Ultimately, the lower levels of trained Six Sigma belts are trained on a ‘need to know’ basis. If it isn’t going to prove to be applicable to their situation, the odds are likely that they really don’t need to know it. However, black belts and champions of Six Sigma need to know the entire process inside and out, including every last detail of how things work. This will prove that they are capable of handling a leadership role in any instance, and that they are committed to making the most of Six Sigma Projects.

The two methods of basic Six Sigma Training and specific lean principles are combined together to create Lean Six Sigma Applications, which can offer more speed and efficiency than typical projects, which take longer to complete and don’t see results as quickly. Between the waste reduction principles of Lean and the DMAIC and DMADV processes of traditional Six Sigma, quality improvement in processes and products is fairly easy to ascertain with the proper level of Six Sigma Training.

Keep in mind that within the various classifications of Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, Yellow Belt, and Black Belt, it can also be advantageous if some of the team members are from outside of the organization. This might seem a little more expensive to the process, but it will give you an unbiased, objective perspective on process improvements and potential solutions to any problems that you are employing the use of Lean Six Sigma to correct.
