How is Six Sigma Training Beneficial to Your Organization?
- Categorized in: Six Sigma Certification & Training
Six Sigma training is a concept that aims at eliminating waste and reducing unnecessary expenses in production and service processes. This form of training is extremely relevant in today's world especially due to the economic crisis which calls for people to employ waste reduction measures. Organizations can outsource the training, if neccessary. Employees who successfully complete the courses receive Six Sigma certificates.
Generally there are three layers of management levels in every firm, the top level, middle level and operational level. The top level management bears the responsibility of solving problems within the organization. However, top officials do not usually pay attention to statistical ways of solving issues. This gap has been felt by many companies, and they have chosen to embrace the Six Sigma technique to help deal with wasteful practices.
This type of instruction is not just meant for the operational level of management. It is holistic and uses statistical measures to improve an organization's performance and efficiency level. Employees often oppose any technique that they think will increase their work load. The entire process should not be imposed on employees all of a sudden or all at once. It is essential that managers fully explain the benefits of this program. This process is deeply rooted in teamwork, and everyone has to be on board for it to be successful, from the leader of the company all the way down to the lowest-ranking employee.
Top level managers should also attend the Six Sigma training with the employees to demonstrate unity, although they will be studying the materials at different levels of knowledge. This will help alleviate any doubts and hesitation from the employees. The Six Sigma Method strives to eliminate redundant activities in any manufacturing process in a very methodical and statistically based fashion. Often, manufacturing units are coupled with unnecessary chains of processes which are time-wasting and not cost-effective. The training sheds light on such issues, and gives recommendations to management on how they can eliminate these loopholes.
Individuals attending the instructional courses are taught the technical aspects of the processes and techniques. The program is divided into various phases within the DMAIC framework, specifically Define Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. Throughout the training, the managers and supervisors are required to affirm the organization’s goals and objectives. This helps the organization ascertain the current level of efficiency, and what is expected of them by their customers and clients.
In the measuring phase, the total cost of production is determined, this is then matched with the total number of process chains involved. In the analyzing stage, customer feedback regarding the products is evaluated, and any overrun costs incurred during the manufacturing process are identified. The improve phase highlights measures that can be adopted to minimize waste while still meeting the customers' needs. The control phase is the final step, and it involves the implementation of the technique and waste reduction methods. A monitoring plan is enforced to ensure that all the changes are effected and followed through. It also deals with any deficiencies in the process.
Six Sigma training is significant especially in manufacturing companies which incur a high cost of production coupled with low productivity. Companies which have successfully embraced the DMAIC technique have experienced improved efficiency, and this in turn, means more profit. A Six Sigma Certification offers supervisory services to organizations; some costs are involved, but the benefits definitely will pay for the training tenfold in better productivity and profits for the business.
