Basic Requirements For Successful Six Sigma Implementations
What businesses should actually try to do is concentrate on fulfilling the basic requirements as might be necessary for ensuring the success of ongoing Six Sigma implementations.

For better understanding, let us discuss some of those basic requirements in detail.

Implementations require…

The Services of Full-Time Black Belts

Six Sigma quality improvement initiatives are an ongoing process, and this is the main reason as to why they require the services of full-time Black Belts. The other reason is that business processes have become complex and it takes quite some time for Black Belts to properly understand them.

Part-time Black Belts will find it difficult to carry out the implementations obviously because they will not be able to develop a thorough understanding of the targeted business process.

In comparison, full-time Black Belts will get enough time to get into the finest details of the targeted business process, and will thus be in a better position to do proper justice to the ongoing Six Sigma implementations.

Infrastructural and Logistical Support

Six Sigma implementation is a complex process and in most cases, requires additional Infrastructural and logistical support. The need for infrastructure arises because more often than not business processes include the use of plants, machinery and equipment, all of which need to be altered to some extent during the implementations.

Such alterations are usually unique and this is why the existing infrastructure is often found lacking. Quite obviously, businesses then have no other option, but to make provisions for putting in place the required infrastructure.

The need for logistical support arises because process alterations also require a constant supply of men and material in varying degrees depending on the type of implementation project.

Active Involvement of Stakeholders

For a Six Sigma project to be successful, what is required is the active involvement of all the stakeholders that include employees, Six Sigma professionals, management officials and the implementation team members.

This can be achieved by putting in place effective communication channels, running all the way from the top to the bottom of the organizational hierarchy.

An Effective Rewards and Recognition Program

Employee cooperation and support is certainly required, but since it is highly unlikely that all employees will lend the same level of support, businesses need to initiate an active rewards and recognition program that benefits the diligent worker and acts as a motivating factor for others. Such programs will provide the right incentives as might be needed for bringing about a positive shift in employee behavior and attitude.

Apart from these, implementations also require businesses to develop operational flexibility and the ability to manage change with ease. Encouraging innovation and creativity inside the organization and among the organizational members can help businesses to achieve these difficult objectives.

Ensuring the success of Six Sigma implementations will then become a lot easier.
