Essential Skills Of Master Black Belts
Something that is even more noteworthy is the fact that the role played by Master Black Belts gets the same importance in all possible situations, be it a business implementing Six Sigma for the first or a business where Six Sigma implementations might have become a way of life.

Here are some of the highly effective skills of Master Black Belts, essential qualities that enable them to ensure the success of Six Sigma implementation projects.

Ability to Understand Complex Business Processes

With experience, most Master Black Belts develop an acute ability to understand complex business processes that have now become a norm in almost all types of industries. This helps them in getting a better understanding of all the various aspects of a given business process and its implications at both macro and micro levels.

It allows them to communicate more effectively with departmental heads and functional leaders, something that is necessary for implementing their suggestions and recommendations in the most appropriate manner.

Ability to Identify Opportunities for Improvements

Most Master Black Belts have the keen ability to identify potential areas for improvements, something that is a prerequisite for successful Six Sigma deployments. By using Six Sigma tools and techniques, they then ensure that the identified business process achieves it maximum potential.

They also create detailed roadmaps and devise effective deployment strategies, all of which make it easier for the deployment team to achieve the desired results.

Ability to Accept Leadership Challenges and Emerge a Winner

At times, there are situations when some senior management officials start taking too much interest in the ongoing Six Sigma deployments. At a certain level, this may be quite harmless - but the problem starts when someone from the senior management crosses the line and enters the domain of Master Black Belts.

In these situations, what most successful Master Black Belts do is that they clearly communicate to the management that such interferences will not be tolerated in any way. They support their arguments by taking full responsibility for the success of the ongoing Six Sigma deployments.

This way, they readily accept the leadership challenges and more often than not emerge a winner. That's because they, too, have a reputation to maintain.

Ability to Get the Involvement of All Stakeholders

Most Master Black Belts are effective communicators and know exactly how to get the active involvement of all stakeholders, including employees, deployment team members, Green Belts, Black Belts, departmental heads, functional leaders and senior management. This lubricates the Six Sigma deployment process and increases the probability of its success.

Six Sigma professionals who are just starting out in their careers should try to develop similar skills, especially if they desire to make it big and create a name for themselves. Much of it, no doubt, comes from experience - but since starting early has never harmed anyone, young recruits should try to follow the same path.
